              Today was history. in science we  did our got junk sheet, our got junk sheet is a sheet that we describe items with. In we are still working on fractions, on Thursday we have a math test yeah! In word study we made  different words out of our word for this week. For writing we are still making figurative language story's. At the end of the we listened to Hilliard memorials orchestra.

          Today was LEGENDARY . Instead of having science we went to the library to finish our book report. In math we worked on fractions. In word study we learned about suffix and prefix. In Writing, we worked with figurative language. At the end of the day, we made and played with gingerbread play doh with our first grade buddies.

( : Today was an ordinary day again : ) At 11:00 we had a substitute teacher named Mrs. Thompson until 1:30. We had gym for special. It is SNOWING!!!! We are reading The Beaded Moccasins. It is about the true story about Mary Caroline Campbell. ( : Mrs. Lambright has been in the cave that is in the book. : )

N.E.D. Never give up. Encourage others. Do your best. Today we all went to the N.E.D. the yo-yo man show. (N.E.D. WAS AWESOME)! In math we did vowel fractions it's when we see a word and write it down on a piece of paper and look at the vowels in the word like books 2/5 of the vowels are in the word. In word study we wrote the word drew a picture and another picture that makes sense with another picture. In writer's workshop we free wrote.

We didn't do math instead we met a ranger, ranger Tom and we learned all about really COOL stuff. In word study we did prove-it. In writer's work shop we did free writing. Today we did Social Studies. In Social Studies we learned about the French-Indian war where the Indians joined the French. We had Music. In Music we practiced orff. Today was an awesome day! :) In math today we worked on a paper about decimals. After lunch/recess we got to play spelling games. In writing we started on free writing and most people have finished there stories. We had a lock down drill after writing. Then we got to have our PANTHER CUB PARTY!!! Today was a awesome day. First in Science did our weather packets some more and we have to make a comic strip. Some kids are taking the comic strip home to work on it for the night. Today was an awesome day. In math we took the test that we were talking about since Friday;). In science we almost finished our weather packet! Today we had Art. In art we made our pictures on clay and we also put stamps on. This week we are not doing work board. We are also are not doing fluency. Kudos for now.  (Kudos means good job!) Start of a new week

Today we had a okay day. In Math we did more than five pages of work in our Math Journals. We also did stations for our test tomorrow. In science we made our weather tracker. Today we took a online assessment for reading. In writing we had less time than normal because of the test we took. Right now we are reading 11 birthdays and we are close to page 50. In writing we are writing a spacific paragraph and most of us are all most done.

Today was a great day :) We didn't do social studies or science because we had the firemen come and teach us about fire safety. In word study we played spelling games and we got a new game called jitters! In writing we continued our stories. In silent reading we got to go to the library even though it was closed. Today was a great day! In social studies we learned about natural resources. In math we learned true and false number sentences . Also in spelling we sorted our words. After lunch/recess we got a sub almost for the rest of the day too. Also in writing we worked on our stories and put them on index cards. Blogged by Grant and Brianna. Today was another great day :) We got new spelling words. In writing we had to describe a word like gum, it was really fun. Today was a good day, we listened to the president's back to school speech. Congratulations to Nora for representing our class in Student Council. In Math, we reviewed subtraction and place and value. We proved our generalization in Word Study, long vowel with a silent e. We finished our collages on the water cycle and discussed the movie that was shown yesterday about precipitation and weather. We are almost finished with our stories about the police officer at summer camp. :) Our book orders came in and books will be passed out tomorrow--sorry kiddos! Don't forget picture day tomorrow!

Monday, September 26

We will be voting for our Student Council representative on Wednesday. Today, we went to the library to learn about the books up for the Buckeye Children's Book Award. We will be voting for our favorite in the next couple of months. For Science, we made a collage representing the water cycle. Our home-made barometer showed a change in pressure today. We played Subtraction Target Practice and Subtraction Top-it in Math. UMMMMMMM, is the sound from the class when asked what else, so I guess we're done for today!

It's Friday, Friday, Friday--September 23

We completed a MAP assessment on the computers today. It will tell Mrs. L where our strengths and weaknesses are in Math. In Science, we inquired about water and ice and learned about the water cycle as well as water as a solid, liquid and gas. We also saw water as a gas coming from a whistling tea kettle. Mrs. Bowers has been out this week so we wrote letters to her today. (With the MAP assessment, it seems we've had a shorter learning day.) Have a great weekend!

Thursday, September 22

On Monday, we will have a new student coming to us from JW Reason! In Word Study, we proved our generalization and wrote stories using this week's words. We continued to work on the writing process with some of us publishing. In Math, we used Base-10 blocks and physically subtracted. This helped us understand regrouping and 'borrowing.' In Social Studies, we went on Google Earth to help learn about latitude and longitude. We found Alton Darby Elementary and The Ohio Stadium. It was very cool! We had a good day...we're still chatty.

Wednesday, September 21

We had a short, good day. We used base-10 blocks in Math today and learned how to explain and write numbers in different ways to help in subtraction. Last week, we finished Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing in Read Aloud and so this week, we began No Talking by Andrew Clements. In it, Dave and Lynsey start a contest between boys and girls that no one can talk to see who can not talk the longest. I'm not sure how our class would do with this competition...what do you think?

Tuesday, September 20

Today, in Science, we made wind vanes and tweaked our anemometers. We tried them out as well but there wasn't enough wind so we'll try again later in the week. We got a new workboard contract this week. In Writer's Workshop today, most people wrote their rough drafts to the prompt, "A police officer receives a letter at summer camp..." which we got by rolling the story cubes. In Math today, we learned about subtraction by meeting some of Mrs. Lambright's friends: Juan, Tim, Henry and Thomas. :) We sorted our words and wrote the generalization for the week. Recess was outside today! Congratulations to Grant and Tori, our Choose to Lead representatives and to Sean, Benjamin and Brianna who will be our ADE News Crew. We will vote for our Student Council Representative next Tuesday after hearing speeches as to why students would be a good representative for our class.

Friday, September 16

We had a very fun day today! We get to bring our Writer's Notebooks home for the weekend--check them out! In Math, we did another good job on Number Talks and finished up our plus sign patterns on the hundreds grid. We finished our first workboard contracts. We had Free-writing today or writing with no boundaries. Our barometer has changed a little...I wonder what that means. Today was Constitution Day so we learned about our rights and freedoms. In Word Study we had our first game Friday! Remember to bring back signed Highlights forms.

Thursday, September 15

In Science, we made anemometers and tested them outside. Anemometers measure wind speed. Ours didn't work so well so we'll make some adjustments and try again. We wrote stories using our spelling words. We are voting on what the celebration will be when we get our first BINGO for class behavior. In Math, we looked at patterns in the number grid and were stronger with our explanations for Number Talks. We met with more groups in Reading and read and worked on our workboard contract. In Writing, we wrote from our hearts. We were pretty chatty today but hopefully have it out of our systems and will return tomorrow ready to learn. 

Wednesday, September 14

Today was a great day! We had tons of special parts for the fall concert from our class. Kudos to you! Thank you Lauren for the buckeyes! We started our reading groups today and are working on informational text. In Math, we explained our thinking and played games. We learned about air pressure by doing an experiment and made a barometer. In Art, we did our book covers and earned a painting. We proved-it in Word Study. I wonder... we wrote what we wonder about in our new Writer's Notebooks.

Monday, September 12

We worked on Workboard during Reader's Workshop today for the first time. Our EGGsperiment was finished and we can now tell the difference between a hard boiled egg and a raw one by the feeling (jigglyness :0) and using a light. To find out if we were correct, we cracked the eggs and everyone was correct! In Writer's Workshop, we did a timeline of our life for ideas to write about. We worked with addition, 2 different ways, in Math and did another subtraction number talk. Now, hopefully, we'll be playing Homeworkopoly!!

Friday, September 9

We met with our 1st grade buddies today and learned about each other. In Math, we only had a short time so we made Place and Value fortune teller/cootie catchers. We messed up at first, but think we finally got it! We performed our Reader's Theaters for our buddies too! In honoring Patriot Day on 9/11, we learned the vocabulary of the Pledge of Allegiance, the meaning of the colors, stars and stripes of our flag and made flags of our own. Our Writer's Notebooks are complete now and ready to be written in!

Uh-oh...forgot the blog again yesterday. Oops-sorry!
Today some were excited about a new menu item at lunch that tasted like chicken noodle soup. We continued working/practicing our Reader's Theaters which we will perform to our new 1st grade buddies on Friday. Why do we write? To communicate, for enjoyment, to share and remind are just some of the responses we came up with. In Math, we worked with calculators for the first time this year and played with the value of numbers. Yesterday, we got a new student--his name is Musa! Welcome! Our first indoor recess was today because of the rain. In Science, we did an EGGsperiment with qualitative and quantitative information. LOL! Today was an EGGsiting day!! :)

We practiced fluency with Reader's Theater. In Gym, we practiced kicking and played Poison. We had another number talk in Math and learned the history of counting. We finished typing our Important Paragraphs. I can't wait for you to read them at Curriculum Night next week! We finished our focus on high frequency words with good 4th grade sentences. It was an awesome end to another great week!

Happy Thursday! This first day of September was really good! We went to Music today and practiced songs for the Fall Concert. Today, in Math, we put "digit" on our Math word wall and learned about place and value. We got on the computers, typed our paragraphs and also learned how to use Pages, our word processing program at school. It was awesome! Yummy cheeseburgers were for lunch! Did you know the ladybug is our state insect? We learned some of the state symbols like that. We also earned more BINGO numbers!

Well, we forgot to write again yesterday but there is a good reason...we had an assembly for Mumkins, which was an out of the ordinary for us! So, today, we will blog about yesterday and today. Sorry... In Social Studies, we got our first textbooks and explored the wonders of it! Today, in Science, we described what a scientist looks like and what tools they use. We have been doing Number Talks, many names for numbers and place and value of numbers in Math. Our work continued with high frequency words in word study. We wrote our paragraphs about what is important about us. In Reading, we worked in small groups with comprehension of everybody books about our core virtues. And, we got our first homework for Math, duh, duh, duh....

Monday, August 29

Other than spending time learning about library procedures, today was a typical 4th grade day. We got a good report at music which gave us our first Behavior Bingo square. We read books highlighting the core virtues in small groups while Mrs. L listened to our fluency. In Science, we did an experiment where we put a bag on our hands and tried to guess the object with our eyes closed. We read The Important Book and made a sandwich with our writing. :) Great day, still chatty, but great day.

Friday, August 26

Today was an okay day. We are getting a little chatty but it is the first week and we will return on Monday ready to learn! Since we forgot to blog yesterday, here's a little of what we did: wrote our rules and mission statement, talked about sentences and began our first read aloud, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. Today, we played the Quiet Game in Math, we wrote stories (pretty funny too) and talked about what reading looks like and what it doesn't look like. Overall, we had a good first week in 4th grade!

Wednesday, August 24

Wow! Today was another great day! We decorated a T-shirt all about us and listed the Top 10 Things About ourselves. We brainstormed ideas for our hopes and dreams for this school year and the future so that we can write our class rules and promise. Our first number talk went great today! Did you know that there were at least 45 different choices for lunch today? Compassion, Respect, Giving, Self-Discipline, Responsibility, Honesty and Perseverance are our core virtues. We read books that showed these virtues. We also wrote letters to ourselves to be delivered at the end of the year to show our growth. Oh, and don't forget our clock buddies!

First Day of School

Today was an awesome first day! We found the perfect rocks. We learned that everyone is unique and has different personalities. We were introduced to the classroom using a map. We made Fruit Loop necklaces that represented ourselves.
